in my opinion Surplus city has done more damage to the M.V. hobby than any other. they have always considered their parts Olive drab painted gold.
they defined greed to another level. I am glad they are out of business.

When I started my M38 project many years ago, I found their prices to be high when compared to other vendors. I never bought anything from them as a result. I've herd that they have some hard to find parts that others don't have.

They did have some M series parts that no one else had. I want to find out where they are now. Otherwise, no, they won't be missed.

They were great to work with when they were in Sun Valley, CA. Gary Collier was the counter guy and phone guy. Sadly he had a stroke in November and has been pretty much 100% dependant on his son Butch. I'll reserve thoughts on that arrangement! Gary is next door at their RV park.
The atmosphere with SCJP seem to shift when the moved to Oroville, CA.
As far as parts go, more have been lost to the weather than have been sold. Shame.

Re: SURPLUS CITY JEEP OUT OF BUSINESS?
I stopped in today since I traveled to Chico. The lady at the front would not allow me to go back saying anything they had left would go to their auction and ebay. She made it sound like the back lot was cleared out which seems unlikely. I did not inquire any further...
She said if I came back on a Saturday “Eddie” may let me go look. My neighbor went up a couple of weeks ago and was able to go back and he spent hours finding treasure. He was looking (I believe for his MB) sounded like they still had some engines, but those were pricey in ‘15 when I needed one.
For whatever that is worth.

Worth a lot; good report. You are the only one who has had first hand contact with them.
I still need a USMC bumper (actually a cover for the rear cross member) for the M38A1; the one with the loops on the ends. They had them at one time. So if anyone finds one, please let me know.
Thanks.

I found out that they are now selling out all inventory on eBay. Have none of the rear bumper attachments left.

Re: SURPLUS CITY JEEP OUT OF BUSINESS?
It’s July 2, 2021 and it is hot.
Stopped at Surplus City in Oroville. Talked to Wally. Bought a pair of M416 trailers. 2K, delivered to my doorstep in Chico.
Yes, the jeep parts is out of business, but if you get to talk to Wally, he’ll let you go back and look at what’s he has left. I will tell you, he won’t let you just buy one or two items, but he will sell you the whole bin or pallet.
After he lost his two best sales men, sales took a nose dive. Last year, before the Chinese attack on the world, surplus City offered me the whole jeep parts division for 100K. That was everything inside the building and everything in the backyard. The only stipulation was I would have to run the business out of surplus City and pay rent. So I passed.
The 151 that was there was sold.
I do know that the MB, GPE, M38 and M38A1 is still out back. I’m looking at getting a pallet or two of 151 parts.
Not sure where to put them.
But that’s what I know of.
I still have a pair of what I believe are a pair of M38 Starters.

Re: SURPLUS CITY JEEP OUT OF BUSINESS?
I have been there 2-3 times in the last year or so on my way to visit Mom. If you asked nicely they would let you look around in the back area and in the yard. I bought a few Mule and WW2 jeep parts in poor condition for cheap, but their military vehicle parts business is basically on life support. Its very hard to get anybody on the phone and the people working there now are not knowledgeable about MVs or parts. They were still selling canvas items when I was there, the quality was so-so and they did not stock anything, it was all made to order. Still stuff in the yard: jeep carcasses, probably six picked over Mighty Mites, other vehicles in various states of decay, boxes and pallets in the weeds of what were NOS parts left out in the weather to rot and rust so almost all of it is in poor condition. No organization at all, parts from different vehicles dumped in piles and on pallets all mixed together. Very sad, but makes for an interesting couple hour treasure hunt. I too remember when they were in the LA area. They have not been to MV shows since a couple years before the meet at Tower Park ended, I would not expect them to show at Plymouth.
