Well in my Army service in the early 70's that is what they were referred to around the motor pool. That and "jeep", which isn't correct either. No one ever said "hey go get the M151 up here"...

We called them “quarter tons” or “quarter ton jeeps”.

The Jeeps were referred to as "Jeep" and "Quarter Ton" by GI's and WWII thru later veterans bac in my day. "Peep" also used to be heard from some where around them during the war.
