Thank you Ray!

It's an 8-53. Some of the early features of an early M38A1 have been a challenge but I'm fortunate to have a fairly large network of parts vendors who either stock or can get what I need.

The "Raiders bug" as I call it is my wife's. It's a 1974.

Hello Bill,

Bravo on the Bug !!!
Looks beautiful :D :D

My M38A1 is also a 1953 model, that I hope to get started, as soon as I get the MB and GPW projects finished,
and out of the way, to get it rolled out of the barn.

Keep up your good work !!

Ray

Hello Bill,

Wow mine is also an 8/53 54898,
477 earlier than yours.
It has all its dash data plates, title, and wheel well data plate.
It was never in civilian hands as it was transferred to a Sheriffs office in remote Utah, where the guy I got it from, got it from the retired Sheriff.
Still 24 V, and the tires are all dated 1969 or so.
There is a military rebuild tag on the engine from 1977.

Here is the post on it, and what I have done so far.
I am keeping it faded original for now, as there is no rust on it.
I have a new Weebee top, and seat covers for it , so really am looking forward to getting it started.
I had Scout Pilot rebuild the carb, and fuel-vacuum pump.

I will change all the seals on the jeep as well, and go through all the mechanical items , axles, brakes, etc., closely.
I have new Firestone tires for it, and have mounted 2 so far, and I will keep one good shape 1969 tire for the spare.

Someday soon, it will be nice to take her out West again, and see what there is to see !

Best Regards,
Ray

Awesome Ray! Mine was California Highway Patrol jeep after the Army dumped it. It had to be a range vehicle due to 20 plus rounds of various ammo found in it.

What did you have done with the radiator ?

I can almost hear it running from here 😁👍!

Your jeep is looking pristine, someday I want to do this level of restoration on mine.

Thank you very much! It's been a lot of work but it's coming along.

Ray, I took it in to get it boiled out of rodded out and a couple of days later they called and said the core was toast. It took two weeks but they put a new core in it. It's an American made copper type core just like the original.

Looking good Bill. Waiting for the white stuff to go away so I can bring my other M38A1 in.

Thanks Ron! Yeah, we have some here too. It's cold! I did get some more done today though.

A little more done today. I set the grill installed the front fuel line and shut off valve and sorted out some wiring for the generator and regulator.
