Re: NDT or Modern tires?
My question was if a person was going to drive cross country what you would use. Just thinking of safety, and for being "original" is up to the owner's preference.

Re: NDT or Modern tires?
For a cross country trip I would go with a more modern tire design. The cross country convoys do proceed in bad weather. I'm sure the extra traction and improved ride quality would be appreciated.
For some fantastic video of the 2019 and 2021 MVPA convoys check out "Johnny Rossman". Do a google search for "Johnny Rossman videos" and enjoy. After following his videos I'm considering joining a convoy or two in the future.

Thank you, David
I have been watching the videos on the convoy and hope to make the next Lincoln Highway run. I have been watching his videos and enjoy them. Also thinking of installing an overdrive in my M38A1 also. I like the idea of camping out of the trailer he does also. My T3-C would be a little easier for me to get in and out of.

Pat sleeping in the civvy is nice and easy. I have done it camping and a twin air mattress fits right in bed.

Re: NDT or Modern tires?
Hello Pat,
I just bought a set of Firestone NDCC Coker tires for my 1953 M38A1.
I would say get the original type tires.
I ordered mine from JEGS.
Free shipping, and the lowest price as well
They do offer NDCC , as well as NDT, for the M38A1.
( I also have an order pending for a set of 600x16 Goodyears for my 1945 MB from them, but the factory will ship them direct , estimated in May !!!)
Things are getting in short supply !
Best Regards,
Ray

Hi Ray,
Thanks for the information. I have been checking around and the tires are in short supply. How are you doing with your M38A1? I am thinking of going to 12v and installing an overdrive.
Thanks, Pat

Re: NDT or Modern tires?
Hello Pat,
I love working on it, I really need to get it out of the barn where it is blocked in by another jeep to finish a little gas tank well repair in an area that needs blasting and painting of a rusty area. Then I can install the restored gas tank and try starting it for the first time.
Also I have to mount my new tires and tubes on the jeep , and I only ordered 4 new ones, as I want to mount a nice shape current tire on the jeep as the spare, as it happens to have been made the year and month I was born
I still have a little work to do, but it is staying 24 Volt. I plan on getting 1 new lower battery tray as it was rotted away with acid damage.
I did get the wiring under the hood taped up nicely, protecting exposed wires where the rubber shielding had crumbled off.
Also new seat cushion covers need to be ordered, but I have collected original or nos seat springs now for all 3 seats.
They will be very comfy when done.
Keep us posted on your jeeps !!
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: NDT or Modern tires?
I have gone for non-NDT but I do take my M38a1 off road and into the wilderness. I have opted for Yokohama X-MT 7.00R16 radials, absolutely amazing!
Previously on military NDT's the Jeep would slide on tight corners at just 30kph, down right dangerous. Now the same corner I can comfortably at 55kmh.
My opinion only.
Cheers
Ian
