M38A1 VS Cj5 seats

Post by zoro » Sun Aug 08, 2021 7:44 pm

I have a 1960 Cj5 that is our farm Jeep. The seats are original and pretty well trashed but the frames appear to be good. I happened to see a very well restored M38A1 the other day and fell in love with the canvas seats.

Can I put those covers and padding onto my seat frames or will I need to modify them? My seat frames have springs in them and I believe the M38A1 seats have the hard pan in the rear. if they must be modified I see that the hard pans are still made, what about the bottoms of the seats?

Anything can be fitted with canvas covers; I would call up Weebee and talk to Dave or Donna and order a set of covers with the foam cushions. Yes the bottoms do use the pans which are screwed onto the frame, and the canvas is laced around the pan. Never saw a CJ5 so I don't know about the seat frame though. You can buy new M38A1 frames too. Actually, you can get NOS ones.
