OD 24087 - 3 different formulas
I understand there were 3 different variations of 24087 used from the mid 1950's thru the Vietnam era.
The early was lighter with more green, middle had more brown and late (Vietnam era) was the darkest with most brown.
I am trying to match a semi gloss on an M38A1 with the early 24087. It is not 23070, 34087 or 2430.
Ron's 24087 (Gillespie?) is a little dark with more brown.
Midwest Military (TM-9) is the later 1968-1974 Olive Drab used during the Vietnam War. The TM-9 semi gloss OD is much darker than the 1956 or 1959 shades of OD 24087.
Does anyone know where the earlier 1956 or 1959 (lighter/more green shade) of 24087 can be purchased?

Re: OD 24087 - 3 different formulas
Be careful!!! Looking at old paint that has been applied to a vehicle for decades is the worst way to judge color. Just consider the khaki color that was deemed to be correct for WW2 jeeps, for decades, until it was discovered to be totally wrong and the green 33070 was right. Also, don't forget that these numbers are relatively modern; MVs used 2430 to 1956.
I use a lot of 24087; I like it. I know of no lighter version on the market; sure you can have real automotive paint mixed; for $200 a quart. I use only Gillespie.
Here is an example of 2430 and 24087. Two of my M37s.

Re: OD 24087 - 3 different formulas
This post is 18 months old.....gotta wonder which paint the OP decided on......
Pretty sure nobody sells an exact 24087 color match to any paint mixed by different government suppliers over 65 years ago.
With about half-dozen of our military parts vendors now making and selling "private label" paint as the 24087 color, the best bet is pick one you like and hope it lasts....(thankfully, we have choices).
And nobody can prove it's not the right shade anyway.
Good luck!

Right!
I only noticed the last post was recent; I didn't see that the OP was ancient.
