I am still researching this issue and filtering through the many pages of this topic but have not found my issue yet so here it is.
I have a 1962 M170 that to the best of my knowledge has the military engine in it. This M170 went from the US Army to a Fire Dept to one civilian farmer to me. The M170 had a number of Civilian parts on it from the military rims, front bumper, mismatched front fenders so I am thinking it got rebuilt or repaired at one time. (all civilian parts I listed had 24087 or strata blue on them under the fire dept. red) When I got the M170 it had a civilian fuel pump on it during the restoration I put the GI style flat top fuel pump with the large spacer back on it.
While diagnosing the wont start issue I notice that it was not pumping fuel. I disconnected the out put line and cranked the engine to see if I could feel and hear the pump pumping with not luck. When I actuate the pump manually using the hand primer the pump pumps. So it seems to me that the space is keeping the pump to far away from the cam to get the correct amount of travel in the pump arm. My buddies M38a1 has a GI style pump with no spacer and it runs fine but I do not know the history of that jeep or whet the pump arm looked like. So I am thinking no spacer is required but trying to bolt the pump up to the block with out the spacer is turning out to be a fight.
So here are my questions due to what I have read on the G so far:
Is it possible that the engine is a CJ engine and would the GI pump still require the spacer to bolt up to a CJ block?
If this M170 does have a CJ block should I try the small spacer?
Am I missing something simple?
Thank you for any advice.

Re: Another Fuel Pump issue / question for M170
Found my issue, the rebuilt pump I bought from a vendor had the wrong arm on it (pump on the left) the pump on the right is another rebuilt pump from a different vendor that my dad found in his garage. The pump on the right uses the 1/2" thick military spacer the pump on the left will not pump with the 1/2" spacer and if you use the civilian spacer it is to hard to install and you end up damaging the pump if you are able to install it.
