Hello,
I have a M38A1 with a F134 from a CJ5. It currently has a heater plumbed between the port on the passenger side rear of the head and the water pump. I plan to remove this since it's a civilian heater, I have no top on the Jeep, and I need the heater for a different Jeep.
So, I need to decide what to do. Do I need to run a hose between the ports where the heater was connected? Install the short hose between the port and the front of the head and the small port on the water pump (both are currently plugged)? Or can I just plug the ports currently in use and run no hoses?
Thanks,
Ken

Re: Heater bypass
isn't their a valve at the rear of the head on the heater hose ? close it and put a pipe plug on the water pump...

Re: Heater bypass
I removed the heater from my M38A1 because it was always in the way when I worked on the distributor. Besides I never drive my jeep during cold weather.
I removed the valve from the cylinder head and replaced it with a brass plug.
For the water heater outlet, there was no way I could remove the threaded outlet from the water pump while it was in the jeep. There was no room to turn the pipe wrench so it could get a grip.
So, what I did was cut the heater hose, plugged the hose with a brass plug, and held the plug in place with a hose clamp. Yeah, I know its not standard issue.
