I was at a friends shop the other day and someone brought a 1954 M38A1 in for repair. The owner said when he purchased it many moons ago it was navy gray with a red cross painted on the hood along with this door in the back. He also mentioned that it use to have stretcher brackets on it that he removed and I think I could see evidence of where they were. Is this some type of USN ambulance modification or what? Thanks

Re: M38A1 Ambulance Modification ??
The mod is not factory. Sounds like it may have M-170 Windshield and a few "better ideas" by civilian owners.
