Water Pump extra hose connector?

Post by Monkeybonezz » Mon Feb 01, 2021 12:32 pm

Does anyone know what this extra port goes to?

Any recommendations for capping it off? Or should I keep it with like some kind of hose clamp on there?

It looks like Ord 9 SNL G-758 calls for a Plug, Pipe, sq-hd, CI, Cd, 1/2 P/N 143953.
Should I get that? Where would a good place to find it be? Is is just a half inch? Would something like this work?

Just go to your local auto parts store.
Some automotive radiators have a heater hose return on them, like the fitting on your water pump, that is not used.
There is a rubber cap that is made to fit on these connections and is held on with a hose clamp.
They come in 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4".
The Grainger link was for a 1/2" NPT plug. Way too large.
The pipe on the water pump is 1/2 or maybe 5/8 O.D.
Maybe 3/8 NPT thread. ??

Thanks yall. I just didnt know if it was critical. Im not putting a heater in here so I dont need it. I pulled the threaded nipple out, went to Lowes, and matched the thread size to a cast iron plug. It works great!
