Clary Flanges are GI Issue, there are two schools of thought on them, some endorse them, others do not. Both sides are correct.

I know this is an old thread but a while back at one of the conventions I bought a couple of these to try on my MB. I understand you need to use the spacer provided to use these on the MB. My question is these were packaged in 1955 and they are wrapped in a red crepe type industrial paper of some kind and slathered with an orange goop of some kind. This does not appear to be cosmoline but rather some kind of orange/yellow grease. Do I just install them as is after getting the grease off the outside housing or get all this orange goop off the assembly and then pack with a bit of fresh grease prior to installing?
