Other than Tm's are there any reference Books for the M38A1?

Post by Duke113P » Thu Feb 17, 2011 3:16 am

So I have been looking around for good reference books, you know books with lots of photos. I have the entire All American Wonder series and Vol. III has some great photos of the M38A1 and M170. BUT are there any other books out there on the M38A1 that a phot heavy vintage photographs? Also, could we get a sticky on here to post ORIGINAL pictures of the M38A1 & M170 in use. Sort of a consolidated picture reference to help out folks. Sooo recap...

Any other books out there on the M38A1 and M170 other than TM's?

And can we get a sticky posted on the Tech forum where folks can ADD copies of original photos for reference purposes?

Thanks!

Obviously.. out fo the 12 people that have viewed this, they are unaware of any further information regarding books and the M38A1. Or they are typing up a list to post.

There was a thread on Ryans's M38 book not 4 days ago. :|

I know Ron Fitzpatrick had Mike Seymour restore an M38A1 last year... Send Mike a PM and ask him what he recommends.

Those are about the best three for M38A1 photos. The Japanese book is very good.

Ryan's M38 guide was the fruit of several years labor and lots of begging folks for information. This we did by sending survey forms to every M38 owner we could. Sending out about 800 survey forms yielded a return of only 250. This should give you a quick idea of how many folks are willing to help with the research needed to write the books they want to see.

Ryan and I have a web site and forums over at http://www.willysmjeeps.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; free for all to use. We have personal photo albums loaded there and albums for period photos. You are welcome to join our site but more importantly you are asked to contribute to it's growth and the growth of it's data bases for the post WWII Willys military jeeps.

My longtime friends Al Bishop and Lew Valente contributed to the "Indestructible Jeep". The author approached them due to their frequent Jeep buying activity at Ft Devens in the mid 60's.
Lew was buying Cannibalized Jeeps by the dozen and Al had bought a batch of Jeeps I had Inspected but could not bid on due ending up in an Army Hospital.
Al's family was approached in 47-48 by representatives od the Israelis for a covert purchase of WC Ambulances for the upcoming war. Lew and Al were boyhood budies and made many trips to Ft Devens area in the 40's to drive back surplus trucks to Maine. Some of these trips included crated WACO CG-4A Gliders.

Thanks, but obviously there seems to be a limited printing on these. So no one has written a book liks the All American Wonder series in a while on the M38A1. I like the M38 book and have already ordered it for the library, seems like CUZ and WES should write a book and take the M38A1 informartion to the next level.

No books like the green M38 book and AAW, etc, for the M38A1.
Get and read the TMs, and get the Jeep Universal manual which is helpful when you rebuild a F head engine.

Duke113,

You realize that Cuz and Wes are one in the same? Have you visited our www.willysmjeeps.com web site and looked at our M38A1 data there?

hello folks,
Does anyone know if Dustin (Duke113P) is ok?
He was a frequent contributor to the board and I remember him posting unusual questions and working on various projects, but nothing posted after 2018.
