Is that a Dutch padlock ?
It actually is! KL = Koninklijke Landmacht, Royal Netherlands Army

One of my bicycles has a chain with the same lock :)

Hello Yves,

Yes I remember an old show about Al Capone's vault, a big bust :D :D :D

At least there is a little treasure under the Jeep seat :D :D

Naturally the entire Jeep is a Dutch treasure to me as well !!!

Hello Ray,
welcome to the NEKAF owners club, a very elite group to be sure   .

Harold Bergers has been a great source of info and a great friend. We visited the Netherlands pre-covid and Harold eas kind enough to take us to a military vehicle show where we were able to view a whole bunch of NEKAFs, and buy a set of the indicator repeater lights for our Jeep.

I have to admit to a little blasphemy though, I hve removed the military type tyres and fitted some Yokohama X-MT radials. That has made a huge difference in ride, steering abd traction.

Keep the photo's coming!

Cheers
Ian

Hello,

Thanks Ian,

I do enjoy being a new member of the Nekaf Owners Club 😁😁 !!

Yes Harold is a great guy, he emailed me a lot of great information and photos of Nekafs since I posted this Dutch beauty here !

They are great jeeps and a huge part of Jeep history !

I am really looking forward to working on this jeep !

Once I get the wheel well plate uncovered I will post it here, and also send it to Harold.

Best Regards,
Ray

Hello,

Thanks David !!

That is pretty cool, I will try and save it and keep it with the jeep !

I took the front tire off the jeep, to maybe put a new inner tube in the 1971 tire, but the tire is junk.
The inner wall is shot, which is too bad.

Now I am going to have to put an old NDCC tire on there.
I can put new US tires all around, but I really want to get a set of Dutch tires than are still available in Holland.
I am sure shipping will be high, but if I am going to restore the jeep properly, they have to be Dutch :D :D

Ray

I don't know what brand of tires were originally fitted at the factory, but Vredestein is a well-known Dutch tire manufacturer and there is a good chance the original tires were Vredestein.

Hello David,

Yes 2 of the tires are Vredestein,

One is Veith,

And 2 are unknown, but all have the same tread pattern.

Nice, 'M.v.O.' = Ministerie van Oorlog, Ministry (Department) of War, nowadays Defense. It means those tires are likely replacements, but fitted while still in service. Might be nice to save them, if only for display. Are they NDT or NATO pattern?

Hello David,

They are the NATO pattern tires.

That is pretty cool about the MvO tires, and I will keep them and I think they can take new tubes, but will look closer tomorrow.

Thanks for that great information !!

Awesome :D :D :D !!

Hi I actually have one of those Jeeps up here in New York state, I believe many years ago Sarcan imported a number of these to the US. The person I purchased this from had taken off many of the lights and other parts that were intrinsic to this model so when I'm finished I plan on "Americanizing" it so if your interested in any of these parts I'd be willing to sell them at a reasonable price. This also has two of the Dutch tires which I eventually will also replace, they old air but as wilh older tires they do have a certain amount of checking etc. Let me know and I'd be glad to send you pictures.

Hello,
Thanks Sargetom !
I would be interested in some pictures of the parts.
Certainly the tires as you can see one of mine is trashed.

I will send you a pm, with my email.

It is interesting that Sarafan imported some many great vehicles from Europe !!

Do you know when these jeeps arrived in America ?

Best Regards,
Ray
