M38A1C and M40 RR

Post by Shalimarantiques » Sun Nov 08, 2020 9:59 am

Hi: GREETINGS.. this is my first time on the forum. I’m restoring an M38A1C and M40 RR. I have both units. My question regards the M40. I’m trying to understand the mechanics of how the Push/Pull Firing knob mounted on the M40 T&E activates the firing cables to fire the gun(s). FM 23-82 is only a very basic manual on how to OPERATE the gun... but not detailed enough to explain how the M40 actually operates The USA ARTILLERY MUSEUM at Ft Sill doesn’t have any RRs and the Infantry Museum at Ft Benning is closed to the public due to CV. So, is there ANYONE out there who has an M38A1C Model with gun that can shed some light on the subject?
FWIW, by daily driver is an M38A1 mounting a M20 75mm RR..... but I couldn’t miss the opportunity to STEP UP MY GAME and assemble “THE BIGGER BROTHER” to it.
Regards, Alan, Colonel USAF (Ret)

Col. ken is correct with TM 9-1000-205-12, dated Mar 59. There are 8 changes to that manual. The basic manual has the M38A1C, change 1 covers installing on a M274 mule and change 2 involves installation on M151A1C. I suggest you contact John Emery of Emery Mule Supply. John I believe has made copies for sale of the entire manual. His contact 262-567-5606.
Good luck with your restoration!
