1952 M38A1 Need help on last few steps

Post by streglown » Mon Feb 11, 2019 1:16 pm

Hi all I have been working on restoring a 1952 M38A1 and I'm getting close to the end. I have just a few things left to do and I could use some help. I have searched all over looking for some answers to my last few issues, but i have not been able to find what i'm looking for, any help would be much appreciated. I thought I took enough photos of stuff when I disassembled the Jeep, but I now know you can never take enough photos. Everything is stock and has been rebuilt, I have converted it over to 12volts, and I'm redoing the wiring using a generic painless wire harness.

1. When hooking up the oil pressure gauge where does the tube hook to the engine?

2. The fuel/vacuum pump, I know vac out goes to the wipers (I'm not planning to have vac wipers) but where does the vac income from the engine? And can I block that off?

3. The water temp gauge, where does that hook into the engine?

Thanks

Sean

1. If you have a direct reading oil pressure gauge you can tap into the oil gallery on the lower left side of the block - this gallery runs along from front to back and there should be a small plug you can remove to insert the oil tube with appropriate fitting. There is a plug at the rear of the engine which is where I tapped into for the oil pressure gauge on my M38A1. 2. Vac on a standard military M38A1 comes from the fuel/vac pump not from the engine per se. Do you still have the military pump? 3. The temp sending unit mounts in the upper right side of the block. If you need the manuals for your jeep you can find them in the "Downloads" section of the Willys M Jeeps site - www.willysmjeeps.com

Hiya,
Just to clarify the water temp sender unit is installed into the cylinder HEAD, right rear side.

Cheers

Thanks for the help, with the info and old photos I was able to track down the water temp and Oil gauge line. Now it's just a matter of the fuel/vacc pump. Here is a photo of the pump I have, I just need to know if I can bypass the vacc connections, or what I should do with them. thanks.
