Recessed lettering highlighting

Post by JeepBoy 1943 » Tue Jun 12, 2018 6:39 pm

I am attempting to do a decent job of highlighting the recessed white lettering on the light switch, throttle handle, radio, etc. YouTube only shows how to do it with guns. They suggest rubbing a children's crayon over the letters and then rubbing the excess off with a cloth. I have done that with only limited success. Anyone have a reliable way of accomplishing this? Thanks.

Use a white Markal paint stick.

Works great. Depending on the paint you used on the surface, you can lightly use some acetone to clean the surrounding area a bit if needed.

Not even recalling what I did it with, but I can bet if the crayon is warmed up, or the knob with a hair dryer that technique would work better, as cold wax doesn't want to flow well into the recesses. Paint pen with a cleanup rub while it was still wet was what I think I used from memory.

going on 25 years since I restored my M38. I remember using white chalk and rubbing the stick into the recesses. lasted for years. just redo it when it finally wears away.

The result are in and the Markal paint stick is the winner.

I got one and tried it today. It goes on, and wipes off, really easy.

Many thanks, Dave.
