Re: ISO WW2 side step mount photos
Thank you! I'm wanting to add one to my MB when built so I'm trying to get an idea of how they were done. I like it a lot better than taking up the space in the back.

Re: ISO WW2 side step mount photos
Hello Daniel,
Here is a picture I found of a 70th Division Jeep, in Germany.
It is another variation of a gun mount that I haven't seen before.
I am guessing it is mounted to the dash mount, and is so high, because it gives the ability to fire the gun up the steep slopes and hills along the rivers.
Along the Rhine River, and other rivers, there are very steep slopes with castles, etc.
Also in cities and town with taller buildings, to get effective gun elevation to fire at targets.
This configuration would make sense.
The 70th occupied areas in Frankfurt, and also along the rivers like Boppard and St. Goar.
Best Regards,
Ray

Thank you! Looks like a tripod extension on the M48 dash mount? Very interesting I've also never seen anything like that.

Re: ISO WW2 side step mount photos
Hello Daniel,
Yes that sounds about right, it was added to the dash mount.
That jeep belonged to H Company, that had mainly water cooled .30's that had exclusive dash mounts for those guns.
The cradle "looks" like it may be for the water cooled version ?
Another thing that could be possible as well, is that having it high on the mount, the windshield could be put in the up position ?
They do appear to have a cloth belt of ammo in the air cooled .30 BMG.
Best Regards,
Ray
