Touching DELTA POWERLITE LANTERN MX-290/GV

Post by YLG80 » Sat Oct 30, 2021 8:29 am

A few years ago, I have discovered that Signal Corps Powerlite Lantern MX-290 in our attic together with other artifacts used on the Normandy beaches, like personal life jackets used later to add some comfort in the jeeps.

That MX-290 Lantern is not only nice and interesting, but it's also very touching.
Recently while carefully inspecting that lantern, I have found that the name of the owner is written on almost every painted part: James North :o

Just to tell the friends, "Do not even think to touch my lantern" :D !

But that is not the end of the story of that lantern.
I have the photo of the owner!

He was a USAAF observer here, during the 1944-1945 winter and almost up to the end of the war.

This is a Delta Powerlite, model issued in 1942.

And James has also written his name right in the middle of the text written on the bottom of the lantern :D .
