The lone German officer thinking,
"Hmmm, I'm in the wrong motor pool"
looks to be possibly a General.

Whats with the Funky helmets worn by the guys with US weapons/gear in the POW pic?

FFI? Must be with the outside white front bumper marking.

Those guys with the "funky helmets" are Free French "regualrs."

"FFI" was one of the designations of the Maquis or Resistance - the guerrillas.

The white bumper ends were probably a blackout visibility measaure.

I thought the jeep memorial in Kyiv was made of bronze. I wonder how long it will stick around before it is stolen from that park and sold for scrap metal? Have you taken any pics from the museum under the statue of all the artifacts from the many battles for the city? I did not have my camera with me that day and would love for the gee men to see some of the stuff in there like the "Iron Cross" display and the weapons. Also the vehicles and the IL-2 copy of the DC-3/C-47 they have next to the vehicles outside of the museum.

Oh yeah, the last photo in your first post shows Russian soldiers with a machine gun on wheels in the rear of a jeep....

Hello Lutz,
Yes I'm in Kyiv now and I has been lots of times in this museum with copy of DC-3 plane from about I was 5 Years old.
The museum did't have any Willys display.
Say what You interesting for and I will make for You (and for other G) pics what You need!
Regards

The French pretty much left everything at Dunkirk so we outfitted them and they kept their helmets for national pride and to id them. The Russian mg looks to be an SG-43 medium 30 cal that was a refinement of the earlier Maxim copy PM1905 and the locally developed PM 1910 it's weight was reduced to 89.7 lbs complete from the 1910 which weighed 152.5 lbs

Sergey....I know some good pics of all those vehicles including the Mil helicopter you can climb into would be interesting to the gee...many are copies of American vehicles like the Ford and Studebaker trucks. I think there is a Russian version of a GPA also, and the IL-2 has even got some parts on it from American DC-3....the tanks are a good collection including the two out front of the museum painted psychedelic colors with the barrels almost touching....I'd like to see that collection of Iron Crosses on display too!
