oil level off

Thanks once again for all the info. I was initially most concerned that my jeep was only taking 3 1/2 quarts to fill, while the specs called for 5. That was lessened when an earlier responder confirmed that the 5 qt number is for engines with the larger filter and that, for engines with the Cuno, the real number is 4 qts. So I'm off by 1/2 qt.--not as big a deal. Still don't know why -- have the right dipstick, the right tube, installed properly, etc. -- but not going to sweat it at this point. Adding an extra 1/2 qt. and making a new mark on the dipstick shouldn't adversely affect anything and will provide added peace of mind. Thanks to everyone; sometimes just need a sanity check.
