Bellhousing interchangeability?

Can any of the bellhousings be used on the early blocks? Somewhere in its life my jeep got a civilian bellhousing. The engine is early with four bolts for attaching the bellhousing. I finally have a line on the elusive Ramsey 50 winch, but it requires the unique bellhousing with the hole for the stud that the pillow block mounts to. I have a later bellhousing with the stud hole, but want to know if it works in this situation?

I think as long as the starter mount is the same, then they all fit; the later waterproof ones with all the mounting holes; you just don't use all the holes.

Im thinking kind of the same lines. The waterproof B/H on the standard plate. Use what holes line up. Still need to check the starter. Make sure what I have doesnt use the pilot bushing in the B/H like the MBs do.

Roger; and easy to tell; your starter bendix is self supported, and the bell housing has a big bulge in it to accommodate that type of starter.
