New Member question 52 M38
Good Morning all,
My name is Ryan. New to the board, I appreciate y’all letting me join. I recently acquired a 1952 M38 that my grandfather purchased in the late 60s from Fort Jackson. I am planning a full restore on it. I wanted to post a few pics of it and introduce myself. Also wanted to see if there is any sources where I can look up more info on the Jeep using the hood number. The Jeep to the best of my knowledge is all OE and has been parked in my grandparents garage since 1978. I will be getting a file folder with some of the docs that my grandfather had from the original purchase. I’ll also post those once I have them to pick y’all’s brain. Thanks so much and looking forward to being a part of this community.

Re: New Member question 52 M38
The hood number wont really help you with the history of your Jeep. However bumper markings if available will.
Also if you want to own an M38, I highly recommend the book on them, unofficially referred to as the Green book. Ryan Miller is the author.
Oh and you have to have a number of posts before being able to post pictures here.

Re: New Member question 52 M38
Thanks so much for the reply. I’m not seeing any bumper marking on this one. There was rust preventer put all over the Jeep back in the late 90s. Maybe I can’t remove some of it in order to see the markings. At this time I only have the hood numbers, U.S Army, and the info plate on the dash that has the DOD as 5-52. I’ll see if I can get some info off the paperwork one my parents bring it. I’ll look into that book as well. Once I can get some pics posted on here I’d like to get some advice on if this tub can be saved. Lots of through hole rust on the floor board and into the side body panel. Also the lower floor stiffeners are quite rusted and decayed. Possibly will need a whole new tub.

Re: New Member question 52 M38
Hi Ryan, not sure how bad the rust is but do not be so quick to trash an original tub. Personally, I would never purchase a M38 with an aftermarket tub. If you can purchase 2 manuals. One is the TM9-8012 for the M38 and two is the Ord 9 SNL G740 supply manual for the M38. You can find these for free on the net but I like the original books. You asked about gauges in another post. That SNL has all the original numbers and names for gauges.

Re: New Member question 52 M38
When you can post pictures, you will need some type of photo compression software/app. Files in their original form are way too big.
Good luck,

Re: New Member question 52 M38
You are a lucky guy. The M38 is the best jeep ever made, and also expensive to restore due to all the 24 volt components. And wiring harness, if you need one.
Get all the TMs, SNL, the Green book, study them every day for 3 months, this site, and M series, before you even touch a jeep. Come over and I'll show you all about them. How to rebuild every component. I study my SNL every night. (On the Dodge WC63 now)
On Apples you can adjust the size of pics.
