My front driveshaft/prop shaft forward U joint has the bearing tie bar. What is this for? Is it needed? My TM 9-1804B manual shows it correctly, but some other diagrams and parts blow ups don’t show the tie bar on any Spicer U Joints.

All it does is keeps the caps from falling off when the driveshaft is removed. It is not needed , just be careful and don’t drop a cap.
