Only difference I know is the front lifting shackle brackets; otherwise, they are the same. No major differences that I know of, early and late. They only made them for 2 years.

Is it better the position of the lifting shackle brackets on the late frame?

They are a different design; front ones. But the frame itself is the same. Get the green book, M38 Restoration guide $65; well worth it; it will tell you all the details about M38s. Can't own or restore one without it.
Go to the M Series vehicle web site and search; I'm sure there are pictures there of both types. I only have the late type; the most common.

Get your self the ORD 9 for the G-740, and read section 1500, the Frame, and note the changes according to chassis number.

Absolutely right; you need the TMs and SNL; and you will see in that section, that there is but ONE frame.
