The front cover of Ryan Millers M38 reference guide has everything you want. Might as well buy a 24 volt Mars siren also. Tow bars look really cool.
Denix makes a nice demilled M1 Garand for your M38. The rifle in my M38 is a WW2 training rifle. I would start by purchasing a TM9-8012 manual for your M38 cause your gonna need it!!!! Thank God for this site to help me with issues with the M38. John

John , thanks. I needed the laugh on the siren comment. The TM9 manual, will get that. Thanks. The carbine info, thanks for that. I will get into that right away.JMZ421 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 2:00 pmThe front cover of Ryan Millers M38 reference guide has everything you want. Might as well buy a 24 volt Mars siren also. Funny you mention Ryan Millers referance guide. I had 3 emails with him between yesterday and today. Seems like a very personable down to earth guy. I did order his book. I cant wait to get it and dive right into it.
Anything else you or others can think of or suggest. Please do.
Geez if I could only get that siren, TWICE the size and GOLD plated. Than I might reconsider putting it on.

Re: M38, correct fire extinguisher, bracket and mounting place.
Nice M38.
Bridge plates are not used on 1/4 ton vehicles.
Fire extinguishers were not issued with M38s, nor is there a standard place to put them when a unit did it.
I once bought one off eBay and it came full of Carbon Tet! I poured in in the yard.
I hate names on vehicles; we did not allow them in any unit I was in.
I know some did.
I hate calling vehicles him or her. They are non anthropomorphic. IT.
You absolutely have to get a full set of TMS, and the green M38 Restoration Guide and study them for a month before you even touch an M38.
Ok you can sit in the seat Nothing else.

Yes sir, upon further investigation I see what your talking about re bridge plates. Your in a few of the conversations making valid points to. I get it. Theres many many conversations on the web re bridge plates, very interesting to. All of the items I asked theres back and forth banter. G503 seems to be the central hub for jeeps. Glad to be here. Very stimulating conversation to. At least I can sit in the seat for now, all I need is the M38 to be here.dpcd67 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 03, 2021 10:02 amNice M38.

Re: M38, correct fire extinguisher, bracket and mounting place.
I haven't seen any information on where to mount the extinguisher on an M38. In the early M38 years, it was a moot point as to whether the M38 actually warranted a fire extinguisher.
As for types of extinguisher, it would seem that the first type available was the WWII CO2-type. According to PS Magazine, this was superceded by the Carbon-Tetrachloride extinguisher and later on, with the CF3Br (monobromofluoromethane) type...which looks remarkably like the one issued by Metalcraft Corp'n.
As for the M38A1, the recommendation was to mount the extinguisher on the dash. The decontaminator's location was on the vehicle's floor.

Anyone else check the ORD 8 and ORD 9 SNL G-740 for the Fire Extinguisher and Decontaminator?
If you like DO-DADs and like to add color to your OD Jeep, the bridge plate will look nice.

The smaller, I think 7 inch diameter, yellow bridge plate with just a black "2" looks neat. I have a color picture of WW2 jeeps with just that size plate. It does not look too much larger than the headlight housing area. John

I like the M series bridge plate on them myself. Another Do-Dad would be the amber headlights. I had them in mine for a while, but sold them off when some one made an offer I couldn't refuse.

Re: M38, correct fire extinguisher, bracket and mounting place.
Its pretty hard finding the yellow bridge plate kit. Trust me when I tell you. Ask me how I know. Another thing, I was looking for the Garand carbine, but decided to get the M1 instead. Theres another thing, hard to find, by Denix. I have 5 emails out and 2 phone calls, waiting for replies. Just little personal things I want to do on my M38. BTW, getting it (M38), to NJ has turned into a nitghmare to. Might take 3 weeks or more, "enclosed trailer". Thanks for everyones comments on "Bling". I am enjoying the chase. Oh, I am going to paint the shovel and ax to, I see you can do ot either way, natural or paint. A deontaminator will eventually show up.
Lastly : who likes names on jeeps? Theres a big division on this one.

Re: M38, correct fire extinguisher, bracket and mounting place.
I am kind of neutral on that. You see some period pictures from WWII with names applied to them. I don't think Ive seen pictures of M38s but I bet there are some. Armor, is a different story. Especially in WWII, seemed everything sported a name. Im getting ready to change the name on my Scout Car to "Pegasus" or "Bucephalus". Horses, Calvary and the fact that in my county are the remains of the last mounted calvary camp. Its fun to drive the Scout Car on the old Camp Lockette roads. Like a ghost from the past.
Yes the yellow M style bridge plate commands premium dollars. Fortunately when I started in MVs, buying them at auctions, there were plenty of plates to be found and I harvested those I could.

You have either an M1 Garand or an M1 Carbine
Not a Garand Carbine.
2 different rifles, different cartridges, different sizes, different uses, ........

Re: M38, correct fire extinguisher, bracket and mounting place.
For WWII MV's there is an excellent book on marking wheeled and tracked vehicles, "MARQUAGES ET ORGNISATION, US ARMY ETO 1944-45. It has illustrations" by Emile Becker. It's expensive, I paid nearly $80.00 to Dennis Spence back in 1988 for mine (well worth it), it is not for post WWII MV's but is a great book for earlier MV's in the ETO. Several versions of the WWII Bridge Classification Plate are described and illustrated.
The book is printed in French and German with an insert printed in English.
DO-DADS? The term "PX Ranger" comes to mind, hanging all that crap on a JEEP reminds me of the new GI's frequenting the PX Beer Garden with all the medals and decorations purchased at the PX to wear while at the Beer Garden.

Re: M38, correct fire extinguisher, bracket and mounting place.
The M1 Carbine looks best on the windshield racks. Ebay is full of them for $169. And has many M1 Rifles for $230. Not sure why you are having problems finding one.
They also have the 1873 Winchester; that would look cool.
Whilst the M1 Rifle will fit, it looks awkward as it is much longer. The rack is made for the Carbine, Rifle, shotgun, the 1903 and A3, all SMGs, and the BAR. Which is really too big.
The M1 Rifle looks good in standing racks like on Dodges and the M606. Same rack/holder.
Get the Carbine.

The bracket is nice, but will mar the wiid stock of Garands and Springfields.
