M38, correct fire extinguisher, bracket and mounting place.
Ok, there have been many many differant answers regarding the CORRECT fire extinguisher & (decal), mounting bracket and where to mount it. On the M38. I was hoping that there "might be" some new information that has been discoverd and disclosed over the years. Since this question has been asked.
The wealth of information here is astounding. Frankly the best site I have ever been on. As always,, BIG thank you for all your replies.

Re: M38, correct fire extinguisher, bracket and mounting place.
Since M38s were not equipped at the factory with fire extinguishers, there can be no "correct" type or location. While there is a set of mounting holes in front of the passenger seat, these are more often associated with the location for the decontaminator.

did a google search on the subject and there's quite a few posts on the subject and nothing concrete as you know...the two locations most often used are on top of tool box next to passenger seat and drivers fender

Re: M38, correct fire extinguisher, bracket and mounting place.
Check the ORD 8 and ORD 9 for the G-740 JEEP. No Fire Extinguisher is listed, there are rectangular mounting bosses welded just in front of the Tool Box Lid, and the manual indicates they are for a Decontaminator.

Re: M38, correct fire extinguisher, bracket and mounting place.
I searched ebay and finally found a "Heavy Vehicle" type brass extinguisher and restored it. WW2 and I know I found a Korean war era picture somewhere with mounting as I have it, on front fender as seen in this picture. In lieu of drilling holes in the fender, I purchased magnets that fit perfectly in the original mounting holes of the original bracket. Stays on real nice especially with the bottom of the extinguisher sitting on the step. Be careful with what's inside those old extinguishers if you get one. It's just eye candy, no different than the bridge plates that half on this site hate to see on M series. John

I like car shows, the occasional drive down along the Jersey shore. Coffee runs with my bride and my buddies. Yes sir. The M38 is back into action soon. Even if only civilian thrills.

Re: M38, correct fire extinguisher, bracket and mounting place.
Nothing wrong with bridge plates on an M38. However they should be yellow and they should be the type that lets you change the number.
Looking at your pictures, and without knowing the serial number it appears to be a later production unit, shown by the data plates all being on a master plate. Also it has a late style wiring harness. But it has an early vehicle firewall wiring plate and a very early horn. Just some casual observations. Nice Jeep.

There is a TM on the later style Bridge plate, it indicates that they are not used on the 1/4 Ton Truck.
I will post the information after I find my copy.
