I had my YS carb rebuilt by a well known person who specializes in old Jeep carbs and I was never able to run my M38A1 with the crossover tube vent line installed. I bought a spare YS carb for comparison and found out that the check valve ball bearing and weight were missing. After my borrowed them from the spare and installed them in my rebuilt YS carb I could now hook up my vent line to the cross over tube and it runs great. Took me a year to figure it out

The Jeep should run perfect with those vent lines connected as in the TM/SNL photos. There is no reason not to. You need some help on site.

Perhaps you have the Vent Line attached to a source of vacuum.
