M38 Fuel Filler cap chain?

Post by ih8pepl » Sat Nov 16, 2019 11:46 am

Stupid question but does anyone have a photo of how the chain from the fuel cap connects to the extension tube on a M38? Im assuming its similar to how it connects to the cap via a small rivet through the chain link?

There is a small ear stamped thru the side of the fill pipe about 2" down from the top. Hooking the chain clip can br an act of frustration.

What do you use to squeeze that clip that attaches the chain to the fill pipe? Do you talk to the clip?

Not sure. Prior owner installed with needle nose probably 45 years ago. Never had an issue

Hmmm... All I see is a fuel strainer bracket - no ear to be found. Fairly certain its a MD Juan tank.

I took a picture of the inside, not the tank!! like you requested. If you look in Ryan Millers book, you'll see caps with those clips like mine. Tank is original, not MD. Maybe someone else could snap a picture for you. John

Do you have the fill pipe or just the tank?

Sorry, to clarify its a repro tank and fill pipe. Im wondering if MD Juan just didn't include the chain attachment point, because I don't see it anywhere.
