Post by roughneck20 » Wed Sep 04, 2019 2:47 am

so ive recently acquired some 16 inch wheels and tires however the tires are not going to be kept and i was just wondering where are all the 7.00x16 round shoulder tires are for a low price as ive searched the web numerous times and only come up with like 2 places that carry them and only 2 companies make them firestone and sta and the price for all 4 is going to be about 700 bucks and thats alot more than i want to spend

That seems to be the going rate. Approximately $200 a pop for tire, tube, and flap. I would be interested in finding a cheaper outlet. I need all 5!

..flaps are used on combat rims not for the m38...be sure when ordering tubes that you get the proper T15 valve stems.
someone here or F/B asked if anyone had used the STA tires, no one I know has...

The STA 7.00 X 16 NDCC appears to share the features of the Military issue Cooper 7.00 X 16 NDCC of the 60's - 90's.
The STA 7.00 X 16 NDCC is a nice tire.
How do I know?- Have some of each on hand for my own use on my prize M-38A1.

Yes the price on the 700x16 NDCC has gone up to $172 each; not sure why. You will have to pay it. For the NDT, those are about $20 less.

Tire Summit Racing. I think the prices are still reasonable. Bill

I did check Summit Racing; that is who is charging the $172 for NDCC and $155 for NDT.
Just two years ago I got them for like $140 or something like that.

My gut feeling is that there is not enough of a market out there.

I'm going to run flaps Ken. My rims had some rust inside that I put POR15 over but they are not smooth.

I just picked up some Coker Firestone NDTs on JEGS.com. They had a 50 instant discount with free shipping and Coker currently has a $60 mail in rebate. Thats the best price I've found recently for american made tires. Still over 700 for 5 and the NDTs were a bit more affordable than the rounded NDCC in 16 rim. the free shipping is a big thing to watch for, many places are 150-200 in shipping due to size.

NDCCs were 172 and NDTs were 155

NDCC(Non Directional Cross Country) is the Army Tread Type for Round Shoulder. NDT (Non Directional Tread) is the description for the "Square Shoulder" Cooper NDCC is out of production, the STA 7.00-16 NDCC is a dead ringer for the Cooper.

And they are the worst tire design ever produced and we used them decades after good mud and snow, and later, radial, civilian tires were on the market.
Lots of jeeps and trucks were stuck and slid, because of them. I never understood it and I lived with them for many years.
Actually the reason is that, when you get millions of something into inventory and in the field, it costs billions of $ to change them. Money for the Army does not drop from trees. And the Mission still got done.
Please do not say put chains on.......
There is a reason the Army suddenly changed everything to real tires in about 1990.
But for our restorations of course, we need them.
