M38 wheel variation?

Post by Christensen.mark » Wed Oct 03, 2018 7:04 pm

I bought a m38 and a bantam t3 trailer earlier this year. The trailer had one combat rim and one m38 wheel but upon further inspection I found it’s not like any I’ve seen. There is a stamped bump in front of the valve stem. Any ideas? Has anyone seen these?

Can you post a pic of the wheel showing the details of the holes and center?
Doubt it is from any JEEP.

If it has 3 of those bumps on the wheel the bumps are meant to hold on a hub cap.

I was on the Kaiser Willys site and they have a "civilian" jeep steel wheel with those "nubs" for the hubcaps. The rim shown has 3 of them so the prior post is right on. John

I’m out of town, but I’ll post pictures when I can. It only has the one nub in front of the valve stem, other than that it looks like a standard m38 wheel.

No idea what they are for but they aren't M38 wheels.

There are only 3 wheel variations for the M-Series JEEP M38A1/M-38 and M-100.
There are the previously described versions for the 7.00 X 16 Tires and the 9.00 X 13 Tires tested on the M-38A1 back in the 50's-60's.
I have witnessed the 9.00X13 NDCC's that were tested on the M-38A1, they are really unique. The M-38A1's with the 9.00 X 13 tires I witnessed were at Aberdeen Proving grounds and at Camp Drum, NY.
There was a 9.00 X 13" option for the 4 Cyl. CJ-5 in the 50's-60's.

I saw them on old farm trailers when I was a kid.

Rock and tree stump protection for the tire valve stem. Anxious to see a clear pic of the wheel bolt area.

Hopefully this will give you a better idea of what I’m looking at. It looks just like the rest of my m38 wheels, it even has the 1/8” hole on the flange.

It’s definitely military something. I’m not sure what now.

Not Jeep related, but there are a lot of engineers and other equipment that may have these wheels as factory equipment.
