Just got an M38, have lots of questions

Post by Willpower » Wed Jul 03, 2024 6:58 pm

I picked up a fairly rough M38, it has a fiberglass body, but a steel hood and windshield frame. It has no engine, but the rest of the driveline is intact. It’s missing most everything else, gas tank, most of the seat, etc.

What’s my best option for an engine?
Looking for least amount of work and money!
(I know, if you don’t want to spend money, don’t get a Jeep!)

I found a PE-95 in excellent condition, it has been stored inside for at least the last sixty years, rarely used.

I hate to gut such a pristine genset for the motor, so I am a bit conflicted.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Will

many, many PE-95s have sacrificed so Jeeps could live. Remember they arent just drop in, the intake manifold is different and there may be a couple other generator specific items to change out.

Thanks for the reply. What’s the best way to acquire the “jeep specific” parts?

I’ve also considered selling the genset, and putting the money toward a jeep L134, or some conversion. Any suggestions?
