M38 original tub have 2 holes below footman loop on right rear any idea what they were used for. Serial number 65269

Without a photo is just guessing.
Could be anything from Bubba to the mounting bracket for the snorter tube (long exhaust pipe extension) used for deep water fording.

Do you have a set of M38 Army manuals to see for yourself?

See Figure 04-1 on page 89 of the September 1955 ORD9 SNL G-740.

The photo on the back cover of the M38 Reference Guide also shows it fairly well.
