REAR LIGHTS

Post by JMZ421 » Fri Oct 15, 2021 1:28 pm

Does the top bulb in this housing only go on when the brakes are applied and switch at the correct place. I know the bulb is "stop light". The left light is a "service light" and is the only one illuminated in stock configuration. Here is a picture. I have no brakes at the time due to repair in case

you are wondering why I can't just go out and press the pedal. Thanks, John

Hi John,
Not sure about the question or what you're doing (assuming you have a stock 24v light system). >>>Edited this post after zooming on your photo<<<

The right side bucket and door has 2 lens and 2 bulbs for the blackout tail-light (bottom lens) and the blackout stop light (top lens). Switch must be set to blackout for them to work.

The left side bucket and door has 2 lens and 3 bulbs for the blackout service light (bottom lens) and the regular daylight tail light and stop light (shared top lens).

All of this and the switch settings for the bulbs are described in the M38 manuals.

Good luck!

Hi Ron. I read manuals and not explained very well. Anyway. I don't recall that top right side bulb to ever light. Wasn't sure if it was brake pedal actuated M38 all stock 24 volt. The bottom does light up with switches in bo. So both bulbs light up at same time when your bo is on? It states that top bulb is a stop light in the manual. Thanks for response. John

The upper right bulb (blackout stop light) should only light when the switch is set to blackout and you step on the brake pedal.

John,
If it helps, here's a pretty good switch lighting diagram (that the Army should've put into the Operators Manual):
