I found this on the inside of the windshield on the passenger side.

Yes, "cost 2,162.00" was commonly stenciled on M38s in 1950's Germany to remind soldiers how much the vehicle was worth and to take care of it. Here's a shot from "The Big Picture", circa 1952. This M38 Border Patrol Jeep is marked 7A 14 AC I-25 and is running around the Fulda Gap near the East German border:
