M151 Custom Seat Covers

Post by Travis AFB Museum » Fri Oct 14, 2022 8:27 am

Hello! Quick introduction, we are the Travis AFB Aviation Museum located in sunny California. We acquired three jeeps (2 M151A2s and a 1944 WIlly's) and will be getting all three running in due time. First is getting one of our A2s repainted and dressed up as it would have appeared in the 1980s. We want to get custom seat covers that are a close match to the Air Force strata blue. An example of what we're looking for is in the attached picture. We'd prefer seat covers in vinyl instead of canvass.
Any thoughts/ideas on who to contact? Whether it's a finished set or just the material to make the covers, any hlep is appreciated. This is a little outside our area of expertise.
Thanks!

I would think any upholstery shop would have no problem with that, and marine shops especially if you want durable vinyl. You could call Dave at WeeBee webbing but I doubt he would be able to help since he only deals with OD canvas. He has all the patterns for the military stuff but special colors? He is a member here.

Hello TAF staff......a quick question for you:

why do you intend to paint those 1980's M151A2s in Strata Blue? Are they to be USAF Academy or Recruiting Vehicle examples? The usual finish for a 1980's USAF tactical-use M151A2 would be four-color camo pattern, or just plain green for deployment within CONUS, but not blue.
Are you using the USAF T. O. 36-1-3 ? Or the AFTO 36-1-191 ?

Hi Rick - thanks for the info. We reached out to odcloth but they said they didn't really do custom orders like this. Might just have to go with a local company like you recommended.

Ken - we want a high visibility, visually stunning paint job for the A2. It's going to be the used in parades, airshows, and other public events. When not being driven it will be parked in the museum in a room dedicated to the 60 AMW.

The second A2 is going to stay in its original paint scheme from Desert Shield/Storm and the WW2 jeep will be painted up as a "follow me" vehicle.
