M151 and Surplus City, Calif

Post by Tech3140 » Sun Mar 13, 2022 8:56 am

As everyone should know, surplus City jeep parts is no more. Well, not quite. True, everything in the wearhouse is gone. Just the shelving and some tables are left.

But the back lot still has some stuff left. But you have to go there as they no longer ship anything.

Here is what I just bought yesterday.
A complete rops cage with all but two feet.
An engine or power plant compleat.
4 hoods
A pair of front bumpers
And a set of A2 bows.

All for $300.00

There are bins full of:
Starters, Generators, distributors, and regulators.
More hoods, windshields, a hard top and A2 fuel tanks.

There are goodies out there still.

If the coils have not been stripped from the distributors that could be a good deal depending on price. Original govt. coils are bringing BIG bucks even as Take outs anymore.

I’m going back there next week and check on those coils.

Anything else you think I should be looking or checking for ??

Replacement generators are really expensive as well, no one makes new regulators either, so eventually they will be worth something for the early M series 24V trucks.

I believe he is talking about the A1 early regulators. I know they are still available for the 60 amp alternators and I thought the electronic versions were still available for the A1 25 amp? If not I need to dig my stash of them out and preserve them. I am converting to 60 amp anyway due to a harness change.

In my experience, everything fails, so any component (A1/A2) you can obtain, and store cheaply is worth saving, better than buying stock market, as they are not made anymore.

I saw both the solid state and the black widow regulars in the bin.

By the way, the engine turns over with the starter.
Doesn’t run yet but it does turn over.
And after a really close look, the engine was cut out of the 151. Torch cut, cut wires, cut tubing and cut drive lines.

Awesome...

The vehicles had to be demilled so it did not matter what was cut. Saving the drive shafts might have been nice but they were after speed and ease of disassembly.
