Hard to Start

Post by rdh778 » Sat Oct 16, 2021 6:21 am

My '67 Mutt all of the sudden has very weak cranking speed and eventually just stops. I checked the batteries and they both peg the 12 V scale. Please help.
Thanks,
Bob

I'd check the cables/connections, then the starter itself
change user name to mark

Most likely a bad battery connection or a bad ground to body connection. Check all of the battery cable connections after cranking and see if any are hoy. It is best to just take them all off and clean them all. That includes the ones on the starter button. These starters are pretty robust and seldom go bad. When they do they simply do not work at all.

If you find it is the starter switch let me know.
I have replacement NOS ones available.

Thank you for your replies. I had a bad ground so the alternator was not charging my batteries. This project it a lot of fun.
