I have a 1974 AM General M151A2 made for the Canadian Armed Forces. Unfortunately, the data plate on the restored vehicle is a replacement, and looks to have a VIN number stamped there instead of the original 5-digit serial number.
Is there anywhere on the body of the vehicle that may shed light as to the serial?

Re: AM General Serial Number Locations
Here is a list of locations, keep in mind two things though, these are body sequence numbers. Not serial numbers. The actual serial number was issued by the military at delivery of the vehicle up til the early AMG series. I don't know what years. Also, even though there was a big deal about serial numbers stamped on the spare tire holder I have never personally seen it in all the ones I have looked at so I believe it was an isolated group of vehicles. My personal opinion on that one.
