151 gas can ?
I'm looking for a gas can for my M151 (Gerry can).
I would like the typical gerry can , how ever I want one that doesn't spill fuel all over ? Suggestions please.
Thanks

Re: 151 gas can ?
Sir,
"Doesn't spill fuel all over"? May I ask if you have the proper gas can spout in good condition? Also, decades old rubber gaskets at the screw cap are an issue too. GI spouts were typically the clamp type with possibly some being the screw in type. E-bay has decent repros of the screw in type at reasonable cost and work well. GI gas cans can be found at yard sales and junk yards and antique stores. A can found with a clamp type cap is
WATER ONLY and has a cork gasket ONLY. Only testing with gas or water will show if the can is fluid tight. Only flushing with gas will clean out the interior of whatever the previous owner left in it. Good Luck!
Try to find TM 10-7200-200-13 Feb 1974. This technical manual covers steel gas and water cans and cans of other material. Unfortunately the spouts are not covered. HTH

Thank you !
I didn't know there was a proper gas can spout ? I know there is a built in funnel for the tank, I don't have.

Ok I remember that spout, never could get it to stay in, then I tried a screw on spout, it didn't ever fall off but the can vent hole was to small to let the gas out. Both flexible metal spouts leaked gas through them. probably cheap imported stuff. the cans where good though. I never filled a vehicle when I was Army. So I don't know what those guys used.

I have used the gas can while in the USMC, no spout, unscrewed the cap, dumped it in the 151.Also siphoned gas out of a 151 into a gas can as my mutt ran out of gas in the sticks.Never come across a spout.

It's called a DONKEY DICK; everyone who was in a mechanized unit or any unit with vehicles knows this. Even the cooks know it. To fill up stoves and immersion heaters.

Re: 151 gas can ? mount
Ok I have a jerry can, I have footman loops, a gerrycan strap and a bumperett. Someone have a diagram on how this goes together ? I don't see it in manuals.

Re: 151 gas can ?
Set the can on the the bumperette with the opening facing the center of the vehicle and the straps will pretty much fall into the places they need to go. Down and across the can to either side.

Re: 151 gas can ?
I did has you said but it seems like all the straps or to short. The long strap over the top, how is that fastened ? mine is just a plane strap no loop. Do I screw it to the body using a large washer? or maybe just fold it over double thick, then screw to body? I couldn't find any pictures of the rear of 151 showing gas can attached.
thanks

Re: 151 gas can ?
I can't take a pic of my good one since that area was damaged and the mounts are not there. I will look at my junkers tomorrow and see if they still have the mounting points. The upper strap goes to a loop close to the top of the body unless you have a very early straight 151 and then you will have a hole up there for it to pass through. You need a loop at all three ends, or buckles.
