Last Year of Production for USMC M151A2

Post by DWesol » Thu Oct 31, 2019 6:01 pm

I tried a few different searches, but found no definitive answer.
How long was the M151A2 produced for the USMC? 1978? 1980? Or, perhaps I phrased this question wrong? Did AM General make an M151A2 specific to the USMC during the Cold War era?
I’m just interested in the M151A2, and it’s later years.
Thanks

Have a 79 contract MC A2.
The harness , circuit breakers and horn have 80 or 81 dates on them.
I would guess it was made during that period.

I don't know about the Marine specific ones but I know they were dating them into the mid eighties. Fil, Remember when you and your buddies came to Jersey to look at those ones near me? They were all mid eighties vehicles.

Thank you for the replies. I was reminiscing with another Marine veteran, about a Motor T outfit that shared half a hangar at MCAS El Toro, in late 1979, early 1980. I remember seeing what appeared to be new, M151A2 models being inspected. Maybe an acceptance inspection and set up? I did not take any photos at that time. I wish I had. They did send me to a drivers school in Okinawa while I was stationed there. So that I would be licensed. After the school, I never had the opportunity to drive an M151 again.

Wow!
That is a beautiful jeep. Looks like new. What a great example of a Cold War relic.
Any more photos?
