Yes I followed the TM and the folks here to include your suggestions after my road test I rechecked the setting/gap they stayed. I just noticed a new problem the temperature doesn’t raise above 155 degrees Im pretty sure I didn’t install the thermostat backwards looking at the TM and I remember taking the thermostat off the old head the valve points in and the flat side towards the radiator.

If you put it in backwards it would overheat pretty quick so chances are better that the thermostat is probably bad. When you replace it put in a 180 thermostat instead of the original 160 and you will get a lot more power and a lot less flat spot.

Ok it's been a few days now apparently there is a problem. It starts perfect no choke needed then while it's idling for a few for about 30 seconds it shuts off or wants to shut off then back to idles then idles down again like to shut off. I rechecked my fuel supply and no leaks or issues. I played a little with the idle screw and fuel mixture but no matter what I do it continues to like want to shut off. I have a full tank. I'm thinking timing or valve adjustment might be out of sync. So I'm looking it over and how do I check the crankshaft pulley is on number one with the timing mark at the pulley, is there a marking I should be looking for? I don't see any?

Should be a notch/mark on the pulley as that is how you check the timing with the pointer

Are you using the choke at all? You are going to have to use the choke until it warms up for a minute or two.

yes at times and even after warmed up but I still have the oscillating idle like it wants to shut off. I never had this problem before the head gasket replacement.

I feel like a dummy so I rechecked the settings on rocker arms number 3 was just a little off so then I readjusted my fuel mixture setting and idle now it back 😊 running like a new MUTT

I was going to say you are idling to lean from the sounds of it. If you still have a flat spot at high speed richen up the idle mixture just a hair, about a quarter turn, no more.

I going to actually need two of those support rods along with a piece of the main support because it has a bend that I'm going to have to cut out and replace or repair.

The first circle is the support bars I need the second circle is where the bar is bent I cut out.

Ok after thinking how to obtain some round stock, :?: I remembered a few years back like 10 years ago I had some bows from a M1102 trailer. What are the chances they being the same OD? They are so I cut a length I needed and welded it to replace the damaged part.

I remember not more than a couple years ago the top bows, along with seats, side brackets and all of that were common. Now, all gone. Most went to the scrapper. I know Murray sent two 30 yard dumpster loads of door frames to the scrapper!

TNJ had the support bars on ebay for $5 a piece a couple months ago, may be worth a call.
