M151A2 with Military "Medium" Tow Bar
Hey Guys-
Thought I'd share some photos of the new tow bar I purchased from GL. It's the Hunter Medium Tow Bar but it's a monster. This tow bar weighs in at more than 250lbs and has a capacity of 39,000 pounds. I ran it up the street and back but need to get my safety chains before venturing too far. With the shortness of my morning run I just put the trans in neutral. For anything more serious I'd drop the shafts. Anyway here are a few pics in case anyone else is curious or is considering a tow bar purchase.

did i miss something in the manual as to the need to remove the shafts, or is this something you learned the hard way? i have a tow bar, but so far i haven't experienced a problem towing it wheels down and shafts attached. have i just been lucky, and is something bad in my future?

I don't think you could ever damage the bar by jack knifing. Now you have to get a deuce to tow with it.

Note the reinforcing sleeves at the front of the towbar legs. This is an upgrade available as a retrofit kit.

Re: M151A2 with Military "Medium" Tow Bar
mrdibble, I have a 1966 M151A1 and would like to ask you where did you get those mounting brackets that go on the front of the M151 to hook up the tow bar. I have the same heavy duty tow bar and can’t find the correct size adapters to fit my Mutt. Your post was around 2011 when you showed you pulling it behind your pickup. Any help sure would be great full. Thanks Bruce W Campbell

You realize this thread is 11 years old and the last the OP was active was March of 2021, right?

Re: M151A2 with Military "Medium" Tow Bar
I know the OP and I do know that even though he no longer has a military vehicle he does still look at the forums occasionally so he may reply. But I think they are the same adapters as used on the CUCV, and M37.

Re: M151A2 with Military "Medium" Tow Bar
It is the same adapter. The kit comes with two adapters as I recall. One with the pin size that fits the M151 pin width and one adapter with a larger diameter pin (for larger/heavier vehicles).

Re: M151A2 with Military "Medium" Tow Bar
Yes I do realize it’s a few old post. I just have had no luck finding those adapters that fit my mutt, when I saw this post I just had to reach out. I believe I have located the correct adapters woth3/4” pin size holes. EASTERN SURPLUS & EQUIPMENT CO. looks like they carry them. I just emailed them to make sure before I buy them. This way I can pull my mutt behind my 1966 Deuse. Thanks for your feedback very much.

Re: M151A2 with Military "Medium" Tow Bar
Thats a home made one, works just as well and a LOT easier to handle! The military Medium tow bar has one leg that weighs more than that entire tow bar! I think the medium is close to 300 lbs.
