Fil Bonica Passing

Post by redlight » Mon Feb 05, 2024 3:51 am

I have just been informed that, the long term member of more then 20 years, Fil Bonica has passed away.
Fil shared his knowledge with all here on the "G503 and in person.
He will be missed by all his friends and by members of the "G".

I have known Fil for close on 20 years. He was a person that would definitely let you know how he felt about a subject. In very colorful terms. But also he would help you as much as he possibly could if you were in need. He will be missed. I remember he was always on the hunt for NOS M-151 parts. You did not even have to be close to him to hear that Boston accent. He will be missed.
Condolences to his family and friends.

I met Fil in 2013 at the Aberdeen show. He was the first person to offically purchase a 151 body panel part from CMD. It was a tool box cover as I remember. We stayed in touch over the years and Fil was always a great resource for information or just a good story. In Feb. of 2022, my wife and I drove to Fil's house and I purchased a spare engine and trans that he had. We had the opportunity to meet Fil's wife while there. I put it in my A2 and then did the entire Blue Ridge Parkway trip in June of that year. We did over 1,300 miles and the engine and trans worked great. Thanks Fil for being a great resource and friend over the years. You'll be missed.

Sad news indeed. I first met Fil and his son Andrew back in July 2006 at the War and Peace Show here in the UK. That was a great
day. He was very friendly. We regularly kept in touch over the years and he sent me comforting words during the time my wife was very ill with Covid. Condolences to his family. Last time I spoke to him was in October when he sold me a riveter. We will miss him.

Here is Ken "Muttguru" Whowell and George Svramselaar figuring out what's wrong with Bill's (aka Muttnut) mutt which kept overheating. If I recall correctly, it was a Barstow mutt.

Condolences to his family and to his friends. I never knew him, but back around 2005-2006 I got very hot on the idea of restoring an M151 series. Found one for sale about a mile or two from my grandpa's place, but it sold. I ended up going for a G503, but always found it interesting to read the Gee back then. Found the forum in 2003-4 but wasn't a member until later.

I am sure I read some of his posts over the years, because I still wanted to expand my mind on the M151's, with the eventual goal of acquiring one in time.

It's a loss to us all when we lose a member of the community, whether we had the pleasure to know them personally or not. Fair winds and following seas Fil Bonica. May you have peace, and your family comfort in this time.
Old GPW.
