I have this front plate, can I just fit a winch inside, or will it rip the plate off my HMMWV?

I'm not sure if there is enough space between the plate and the frame crossmember.
The Warn 9k electrical winches on A2 HMMWV are installed using that plate but there are also a pair of frame extensions as well as angled 2in square tubing bottom brackets, too.
The Warn 6k electrical winch on A0 to A1 HMMWV used a different plate, the frame extensions and two twisted flat bar supports.
The MileMarker Hydraulic Winch uses a proprietary bumper plate but no frame extensions.
My first truck, an 87 A0 came with a ChiCom Freight 12v winch, and the fellow used 4x4 wood blocks between the winch plate and the frame extensions. I replaced the blocks with the proper frame extensions and bottom angled brackets.

Re: M1123 Front Winch Plate?
So the issue IS NOT strength, the front of the HMMWV is strong enough for a 12k winch. The issue is the space and being able to fit a winch behind the plate. Am I understanding this correctly?

No winch will fit behind that plate unless it has the extensions.

Or get rid of the plate and install a Milemarker winch…
