Mounting Skid Plates

Post by Economist » Thu Mar 08, 2012 7:24 am

Has anyone used the H1 aluminum skid plates on an M998. From what I have researched, one could rivet the H1 brackets on the M998. Any other solutions?

Thanks. -Economist.

Yes you can do just that. I bought a pair from AMG and they went on very easily.

The parts catalog indicates that 3 of the large brackets and 2 of the small brackets are needed. That is more than $600 in brackets. Did you find a better deal on brackets or did you just bite the bullet?

I bought the whole kit from them. I think it was $1,200. I thought that it was expensive, but..............
If you already have the skid plates, you can just position them and then build brakets to go in between. These skid plates are attached tightly to the forward footwell and then shimmed at their rear end at the forward side of the rear wheel wells. You can use the tapered holes in the bottom of the skid plates as access points to figure out the size of the brackets. The brackets rivet or bolt to the underside of the floor and have speed nuts for the skid plate mounting bolts to attach too.

I have a set I need to install as well .
86humv might have some input on this.
He gave me the part#'s ( which elude me right now) I believe he said that the parts were cheaper through the Hummer guy then kascar. I need to get those suckers mounted up soon myself.
Hopefully he will see this thread.

I used 4 ea. of 6001241 brackets, 12 ea. 6001283 nuts, and had the countersunk screws already.
Forget the 6001275...at $ 173.88 ea.
I made it work

So you just used (4) brackets of the cheaper brackets ? Not even one of the pricey jobs?

I have gregs old truck with the rocker panels.....I took them off for now for work but was curious how they were put on.
I have taken them off my hummer before. If Greg intalled them they were done right....there is a channel with the captive nuts that get riveted on...plus the front and rear bolts through the wheel well....they fit good.

Would anyone happen to have a pic of them mounted? I need the mounts to attach to my truck
I bought a pair of the skis plates with Rubber Duck rocker protection and extra steel plates underneath. Thanks

I looked into this, one of the brackets was showing at over $200 each being the brackets behind the rear seat footwell areas, I have the skids no brackets, would be easier to work out what you need and fab something up, I have a donor H1 here as well to refer back to so can measure up what is needed, let me know if you need some measurements

Through bolt the skids to the floor front, front footwell, back footwell, back, and done.
Worked great for steel H1 skids on my 998
