BLACK BITUMINISED SLEEVING/TUBING

Post by Rod Rushton » Thu Sep 02, 2021 9:28 am

In the UK, With the introduction of E10 Petrol (gasoline) am replacing all the steel brake and fuel lines with copper for the fuel, and Kuprinol (copper/nickle) to prevent Winter Salt corrosion for the brake lines.
Although in the case of the fuel, it is still possible to buy Supreme Grade, which has only 5% Ethanol, with the "Green" movement gaining ground, I wonder for how long it will be available.
have done this a few times in the past, but what seems to be in general short supply/out of stock is the original style black bituminised sleeving used to insulate them from the securing clips. The questions I would like to ask is where is this made, and in what quantities would it have to be purchased.

I think that product is sold as wire loom and is the same outer sleeve used soon wiring harnesses to bundle the individual wires together?

Is what you are referring to the cloth woven black material that goes on the metal tube, under a clip or bracket ??
Don't have a source, but what about heat shrink tubing. Plastic and come in different colors.
Multiple layers to get the thickness you need.
I know. It isn't OEM but who will notice unless you are trying not to get gigged during judging.

Rod,

E5 will remain available at at least one major supermarket chain.

Esso Synergy Supreme 98+ is actually Ethanol free as stated on the Esso website (the standard is UP TO 5%)

Pretty cheap, various sizes available. Don't know if they will send to the UK, but worth checking. I've purchased from them and they have been reliable. It means you end up with more than you need, but as it is so cheap, it doesn't matter.

If you don't drive too much, it's pretty easy to separate all the ethanol from the fuel yourself.

See here for the principle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opPZD8- ... dex=1&t=4s
