WWBD?

So, What Would Bubba Do?

What would Bubba do when he had a pin hole leak in the air cleaner cup? Well, since the internet didn't exist and parts were hard to find and took forever to arrive in his rural area, and, knowing how important clean air is, he would make a new oil cup for his Oaks air cleaner out of an old anti-freeze gallon can! He would cut it shorter so he could still slide it in and out for oil changes. He would roll the edge a bit and then solder a ring that he made, maybe from a coat hanger, around the edge to form a lip-seal. Then he'd find some sort of "catches" from something else and solder those on in just the right places for the latch clips to "catch". Naturally he'd paint it black so it looks like it's supposed to, and because of the uncomplicated shape it actually holds more oil so it can run longer in dusty conditions. And in doing so he may have saved this numbers matching GPW engine from extreme wear! Bubba is often ridiculed here, including by me, so when he does a good job he needs to be recognized!

That's my NOS H cup to the left of Bubba's "paint can" cup. Nice job Bubba!

Poor old bubba gets a lot of grief and he certainly deserves it, but without him I don’t know how many of these jeeps would still be around.

And don't forget that for many years the supply of parts was almost non-existent (at least in some parts in the world) before the military cleared out its stock of obsolete parts and the remanufactured parts appeared on the scene. You had to "Make-Do-And-Mend".
