I am thinking about putting a set of AVM free Wheeling hubs on the front of my 1944 Willys MB.
It's difficult trying to find out exactly which ones are suitable for my jeep, Has anyone fitted these to their Jeep ??
I have been told that the AVM 405 hubs may fit but can't be sure.
Any advice / suggestions are welcome. I am based in South East England.
Thanks.

AVM 401 is the number according to AVM's website:

AVM 405s fit Land Rovers and appear to be larger in their chart.
Not sure if the AVM 401s require the Willys stub axle's threaded end to be cut off or not.

Hi Marty,
Thanks for your reply, If it involves any cutting or too much removal of parts from the jeep then I'll not bother.
I would not wreck the jeep for the sake of fitting the hubs.
I'll keep looking for information,
Cheers, Chris.

Re: AVM Free Wheeling Hubs
Earlier Hubs were made which can accommodate the older axles with the threaded end. Warn, Selectomatic, Dualomatic and other brands of these older Hubs come up for sale on Ebay from time to time, but they aren't cheap. I have a set left over from a Jeep project I did years ago which I will use on one of my Jeeps. Thinking of these, I had one old Jeep years ago which had "Sears" locking hubs on it. Sears didn't make them, and don't know who did, but they worked fine.
You are wise to avoid the temptation to cut off the ends, these serve a purpose, you can't set the end play without it. Matters more for the caged joints, but just not a good idea to saw off something like that.
The later axle/hub design without that threaded end have a different setup for end play, and with the right parts the older hubs can be adapted for the newer axles.

Re: AVM Free Wheeling Hubs
Ten years ago when I was restoring my GPW, I decided on a list of "upgrades" one of which was to fit an overdrive. The search lead me to Herm - The Overdrive Guy who during the negotiations mentioned he had a pair of reconditioned "Selectro" ones - which I included in the purchase. Since fitting and using them they were everything I'd hoped they would be. Not only are they effective but are so neat and easy to operate and in my opinion, one of the better purchases I have made. I thoroughly recommend them.

The Sears hubs I've seen are re-badged Selectros with a big hand knob to actuate them. I put a set of them on my friend's MB, milled off the Sears name first, though.

Dualmatics come up on ebay or craigslist from time to time. Some of the other brands have a cult following and as such are priced higher just "because".
Dualmatics come in a short version which requires cutting off the threads to fit them. DO NOT DO THIS!
They also come in a taller version which will accommodate the threads just fine. BUY TIHS STYLE!
