HUPP heater

Post by USAFpj » Tue Jan 20, 2009 6:29 pm

I pulled a heater from under the right side cowl and it is a Hupp "Huppower 355" heater. I haven't been able to find any info on the net about it. Does anyone have an idea about the company?

Curiosity got the best of me(you know they say "it killed the cat"), so I Googled. There was a automobile co. producing a car called the Huppmobile. they had a heater that was coal fired it was called a foot warmer. Many parts available for car on ebay. There is also listings for Hupp heaters with parts available on the Google, pictured similar to the one you pictured. Regards, Jim

That one looks like a simple in/out plumbed radiator type. The wire may be for a switch to turn on/off a simple fan to blow air through the radiator and the vents will seal it off in the summer. Originally it might have efen had a shut-off valve in the system, but this would require a hose tapped into the HEAD ane one tapped into the WATER PUMP.

Your heater is not an original Jeep accessory.

Late clarification

These heater have nothing to do with the HUPP automobile.

HUPP made heaters for military vehicles, also SEARS private labeled them in the 60's. Exact same model.

HUPP went bankrupt in 1991. Maradyne bought the rights and now makes this type heater with slight modifications.

That current model in the picture is the a Maradyne 5000 equivilent. 17,500 BTUs. Model 8000 (slightly bigger) gives out 20,000 BTUs.

Great heaters. Very heavy duty made. Can supply both defrost and floor heat.

Mills Supply can get you a new motor, fan, switch, core, or whatever you need for that one pictured. You can even get a 24 volt motor if you like.

If you want to get rid of it, PM me and I will make you a deal.

Hope that helps on the mystery heater.

Got one of these little Hupp heaters in a 64 CJ5. Interesting, It probably was bought from Sears and installed on the Jeep.

It is a simple pluming in and out heater with a separate blower control knob.

I think it's pretty cool and I may restore it with my Jeep since the core seems OK.

Don't think I'll put a heater in in M38A1.

That was a very common aftermarket heater, we used to sell them at Acme Auto.
We sold a lot for use in Cobra replicas.
