info about WWII Willys armored jeep

Post by maeserik » Sun Jul 27, 2008 7:54 am

A friend in our club ( he knows nothing about computers and internet )want to build or modify an existing jeep into an WWII Willys armored jeep, used in the Ardennes belgium 1944. He needs pictures to complete his plans. Has someone pictures or weblinks about this jeeps ? There is still a replica in the museum in the Ardennes, but this jeep misses the special logo's. That time they need small armored vehicles, because the tanks where to big to move through the forrest. A jeep was used to start with, the windsheeld was removed and replaced by a iron plate with two sidewalls. There was also an iron plate befor the frontgrille.

Thanks, Erik

Hey Erik,

The armored jeep in the museum of La Gleize was built by a good friend of mine.I think he even had original plans from WWII.They did'nt used wood or cheap stuff.only real armor plates and it looks great.
Seen many "armored"jeeps but non of them had real iron plates. Also maybe not a good idea with those crazy gasprices
If You want the guys email,PM me.
The pictured jeep is one from the 82nd AB recon guys during the battle of the bulge.
Good luck with the jeep.

I'm sure everyone reading this would be interested in these plans. Especially if they are WW2 vintage plans.

I for one would like to know:

Well that was about 10 years ago that that jeep was built. The only thing I have now is a couple of photos. I did not use the windshield I had my own fabricated. If you PM me an email or a cell I can text some photos I can do that for you. Just PM me don't put it on this post.
